Rose Window, (1997)
Oil on Canvas 120x80

These visions show, thanks to the concentration of forms and the disposition of masses that are clearly outlined and organic, that Giuliana Caporali can free herself from the ancient reality and recognizes the value of inventions and of solid volumes. There is however a strong nostalgia, an answer with a cry of distress, obsession and nightmare to progress, with the choral passion of those who think that harmony and beauty of art are immortal.
As the supernatural gift that is immeasurable, we understand that transforming art into a fruitless and intellectualistic game means reducing the prerogatives of stimulating and tonic existential function. Consequently, her works have a symbolic aspect with unmistakable characteristics. Colours, at times inexplicably subtle and often sharper, convey to us, in their exquisite production and dynamism, the signs of an intimate language full of dreams and lyric passages, in an era that is so rarely inclined to poetry. In these bright and shining prospectives, Giuliana Caporali shows suggestive images that take on a meaning from space and from the pure expressive synthesis, on the edge between actual form and conceptual elevation. Therefore the artist's temperament is far from being crepuscular because her pages are always reaching out towards the endless research or emotions coming from the bottom of one's soul. By observing the vast built-up areas of Manhattan or the high domes of Roman churches we can see that the dynamic and conditional reality still fascinates her; the Roman painter, shade after shade and in a total concentration towards the sky, works depending upon the deep meanings; she works, paints and suffers in full inventive freedom, thus making echos and voices resound bare as if made of stone, concrete or iron. The richness of moods is counteracted by the cold imposition of the progressing technological society.
